Sunternal/Nexus finished our job in 2022. They had to climb up our roof a whopping 14 times to replace broken tiles. Each time, they broke new ones on their way down. We could only check the roof visually after they were done. It was summer, and it looked like the tiles were okay…ish.

As usual, come winter, it starts raining in California, also at the end of 2022 and the first time since Sunternal had completed our solar installation. As it turned out we had five major leaks that we hadn’t been able to spot until then! It seemed like the tiles underneath the panels were in bad shape too. We thought of emailing Sunternal/Nexus some videos to see what they could make of it.

They said they would send a roofer again. You can probably guess that we didn’t trust Sunternal anymore after that. Our experience over more than two years until then had taught us that Sunternal/Nexus had a history of being unpredictable, not keeping their word, and when a roofer showed up at a time we hadn’t agreed on, we politely asked him to leave our property. It would have been the 15th time otherwise and made little sense any more.

The next two and a half years were a real challenge. Every winter, it would rain so hard that it would pour into our living room on the first floor of our two-story house! The contract had an arbitration clause. We weren’t too keen on this process.

Instead we decided to get our roof redone, but this turned out to be unexpectedly difficult…..
